Big Cat Week II - Update

By panda_eyed

For those who didn't manage to catch Big Cat Week last night for whatever reason, little Toto survived the scary baboon attack by laying low - yaaaayy!

The dangers aren't over though, ohhh no! Toto and his mum were faced with a very big lion in close proximity who would almost certainly have eaten the cub. Thankfully though, lions are very short-sighted!

Since only 25% of cheetah cubs survive their first year, it's going to be a tough one for Toto. He seems savvy enough though, and we shall keep our fingers crossed for the little mite! He is such a little chap, but he sometimes acts as though he's a big kitty!

Some interesting big cat facts for you - did you know that:
  • Lions, when the female is on heat, mate on average 150 times a day
  • It takes approximately 3000 matings for one lion conception to occur (for humans it's 120 times) This means that in order to conceive one lion cub, lions must be mating for 20 days solid! The horny beasts!
  • Lionesses roar during nookie but male lions squeak!
Lol, I leave you to ponder over those in wonder :)

LOL, thanks for those facts! Those lions really were horny beasts, all the female wanted to do was find some dinner but the male kept blowing her cover and then getting it on with her! They never gave that fact about lions away in The Lion King...!

Seema, I know - that lion was a naughty boy! they went for 2 days solid.. my goodness!

Liv, forget being a tigress in bed, being a lioness is better! :D

Jia, Yes! He lives! Apparently though, I got my figures wrong and its not 25% of cubs that survive - only 5%!! Toto got drenched in the storm last night, and he was small and wet and shivering! poor mite!

150 times a day!? Horny beasts indeed. I'm guessing that dinner and a movie isn't included in that ;o)

    Awwwwwwww the little fella died?
    Poor babs.

Youngmummy - just think of all the baby animals that die and we don't see them. Out of sight, out of mind.
But when we see it, we hurt.
    *here have a chocolate!*

    Hi Olivia:
    Yay chocolate, hurrah!!!
I know, but like you said out of site out of mind but when you hear about it, it seems so much worse.
Thanks for the chocolate honey, it made me feel MUCH better!!!

It was such a sad episode - it was the last in the series and they spent allll the day looking for him and for one moment, thought they'd found him. Then a couple of days after they left - the Park keepers noticed his Mummy, but without cub, taking that to mean that he hadn't survived. Let's just hope he was hiding! :|

No thanks to chocolate - it's too hot for that! Gosh, me saying no to choc - what next?!

BTW I've been trying to be a good girl and not blog so much at work, but I'll try to do one later. Lethargic though in this weather..

I wondered if it was his mother or another that looked similar to her?

The Lion stats were funny!!! Squeal like a pig little boy! heheh

Talking about pigs...pigs have a swirly willy, and mate hundreds of times too!

Why is nature so cruel that men can only manage a few times in one session? ;0)
  22. panda_eyed 1:03 pm, July 24, 2006
Nature is cruel in different ways, Foxy. Imagine if you were a boy dog during nookie - females have a hooky mechanism that stops the males from withdrawing his penis. Ouch.

Something to say?
